Monroe County Manager Lorri Byrd presented on Tuesday, Feb. 17 a Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the 2024 Fiscal Year.
County Manager Byrd said the purpose of the PAFR is to provide a condensed, simplified version of the county’s annual audit. County Manager Byrd said the 29-page PAFR contains the county’s key financial data as well as individual department information, such as statistical facts and figures. She said Monroe County’s net position (assets – liabilities) increased by $5 million from $150 million at the end of 2023 to $155 million at the end of 2024.
District 2 Commissioner Eddie Rowland said the PAFR tells the full story of the Monroe County government’s activities during 2024. He said he has already given copies of the PAFR to Monroe County’s state delegation, and they told him that a document this detailed is almost unheard of in a county the size of Monroe. Commissioner Rowland said the only downside is that the amount of time it takes for the county’s audit to be completed necessitates that the PAFR data is always about a year old by the time it is released.
Commissioner Rowland said of the PAFR information: “People talk transparency. You can’t be any more transparent than this.”
